Burke residents to vote by mail
|
The 1993 Legislative Session allowed counties to conduct Mail Ballot Primary Elections and the 2007 Legislative Session extended that option to the General Election.
The Burke County Board of County Commissioners has voted to exercise the option to have a Vote by Mail Primary Election for Burke County this year, which essentially means that all voters will be voting absentee.
If all goes well and if the public agrees this option is acceptable, the Board will also conduct a Mail Ballot General Election.
The objectives behind this decision include the savings in costs of conducting the election by way of reduced costs of programming and maintaining seven voting machines, seven AutoMarks, six polling locations, and a substantial reduction in the number of poll workers for training and Election Day.
