Ginny,
I have been to Westhope many times in my dreams, and I have got to ask:
Can you really depend on your neighbors? Can you walk the streets without fear? Can you mention Jesus in casual conversation without ridicule? Is most of the town at the school on game nights?
Do kids still go barefoot? Do most men own pickup trucks? Can you hear a church bell all over town on Sunday morning?
Please Ginny, say it is so. Say that Westhope is my dream town. Tell me how the Christmas lights dance across the snow covered lawns, and carolers visit the elderly. Tell me that you know who threw the eggs on Halloween without asking, and downtown stops moving for a parade on main street. Tell me about the harvest dinner and the Easter egg hunt in the city park. Tell me that the whole community prays together for the crops, and for each other when the storms hit, and for the nation. Tell me that Westhope fears God out of respect and loves God out of gratitude and thanks God for life

In loving memory of my father Dennis Rystedt;
Dennis L. Rystedt
Dennis L. Rystedt, 70, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Una Fay; children, Martin Clark, Cameron Rystedt, Erika Johnson, Spencer Rystedt and Melanie Riley. Dennis and his wife have 12 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and brothers, Jim (Norma) Rystedt of Grafton, N.D., and Thomas (Linda) Rystedt of Powerslake, N.D. Dennis had been a resident of Pueblo West for the past 15 years and spent some time as a real estate agent until his illness progressed. He was a rural mail carrier and farmer in North Dakota for 33 years. At his request, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place in May (date to be announced) in Stanley, North Dakota.

Merry CHRISTmas everyone. I try to keep up with the news in Westhope; Not too many people I remember anymore. They have all moved away.
I am asking for your prayers for my son, Roger Jr. , who is serving in Kuwait right now.
I have three sons, and 16 grandchildren now, I feel so blessed. I graduated at Westhope in 1972, am a disabled US Navy veteran, and would love to see some of my past classmates touch base with this guestbook. Blessings in all you do!!!

Ginny: I was wondering if you have an e-mail address? Also, I heard that an obituary was in your paper for my dad and wanted to read it. Could you send me a copy of that? Thanks so much.

I just responded to Lori Orser, my Grandfather was also the founder of the Standard, AJ Drake and my Uncle Cliff ran it for 30-40 odd years, I'm not sure of the date he sold it. (My Dad Charles Drake is the only one of AJ's children still alive, he's 91)

My maternal great-grandfather, A.J.Drake, founded the Standard. I think it was then taken over by my great-uncle, Clifford Drake. I would love any info on when/how it changed hands after that - most of our older generations (including my mother)have passed on, and we don't have much to go on. If there are old issues avaiable, from A.J.'s time, or if we could get copies of some of them, we would be very grateful! Thanks for carrying the torch so very well! my email is laurel1@bis.midco.net, please let me know if you know anything about A.J., his wife Alma Brown, and their family other than my grandmother, Evelyn Drake Scott. Thank you!

Hello Westhope! I've never been in your neighborhood but do have some family roots in the area. I'm wondering if any readers here knew Fred or Blanche (Fletcher) Evans - I'm very anxious to reach their family.
Thanks so much!

I am researching my Great Grandfather's great American Story and the Westhope Standard has an article that blessed me with his nickname! "Grizzly Bear" E. W. Everson has a great story that should inspire us all to stand up for what is right! I am blogging my quest to uncover this great American story at www.grizzlygroundswell.com Stop by and let me know what you think and if anyone's grandparents remember E. W. Everson and the IVA Fighting Squad coming through your town! I thank you in advance for your wonderful newspaper and from one displaced North Dakotan to my fellow North Dakotan's, God Bless You all!
E. W. Everson's Great Grandson,
Chad Everson

Was just reading the Westhope Standard. I miss Westhope and Antler. I have't been back since 1995 when my brothers, sisters, and I helped my mom and aunt to get ready for an estate sale of my Uncle Bernie Fox's home in Antler. I have so many memories of fun times visiting my Hill grandparents (Bill and Fern)in Westhope and Fox grandparents (Fred and Ruth) in Antler, also my Aunt Gladys and Uncle Pete DeMars and all my cousins. Wish I could make it back there from Alaska sometime.

This is Inderoy in Norway calling. My grand-grand-dad’s cousin Edvard Kristian Ferstad came to live in Landa about 1895. By a letter from one of his son’s, Nicolai, I know they where still Landa citizens in 1913. I wonder if someone got any old or new pictures of his farm, people or anything else that describe what kind of life they lived. My e-mail is jonrunevist@hotmail.com

Wanted to thank all those who were there for my family when Dad died, esp. my dear buddy Robin Tolstad! Also just read the article about all you volunteers that helped my dear brother Stewart with his sunflowers. The whole family really appreciates it. Thank you so much.

It is so good to keep in touch with updates on your website. Thank you. Seeing everyone who has passed on to be with the Lord is disheartening, and reminding me of the dear friends of my mom and dad(Bud & Allie Kleespie). Time has a way of passing whether or not we want it to. I live in the Fargo area and would love the opportunity to say hello to some old friends. Please email me anytime! Blessings to all.

I just found your site. A picture that was in your paper on July 19 was emailed to me. It was of a moose and her twins. The photo was taken on my grandparents farm north of Landa. I would love to have a hard copy of that paper.
