Lil' Ranchers Childcare Opens
BY KIARA CROSBY
What began as a thought in May of 2009 has evolved into reality for the community of Powers Lake. Lil’ Ranchers Community Childcare officially opened their doors for business this past Monday.

Almost a year ago community members met with Childcare Resource and Referral of ND to begin the discussion of a community childcare facility. From that meeting a board was formed, the Powers Lake Childcare Association.

"We are a non-profit organization with the state of ND," stated Board member Jessica Bullinger.

Knowing many people were looking to move to Powers Lake, or had recently settled in the area, the board did not want lack of childcare to be the reason for people to look away from all the community has to offer. Some residents of Powers Lake were already taking their children to neighboring communities for childcare.

Looking hard at the numbers and the immediate need for childcare, "We took a leap of faith and got it going," commented Bullinger.

Westhope Classic Golf Tournament Held
July 17-18

By Kathryn Klokstad
The Westhope Classic Golf Tournament was held at the Golf Course the weekend of the 17th and 18th. According to most of the golfers I talked to, the weather was just perfect, sunny with a little breeze. Each year teams from all over come to participate. This summer-time tournament is the biggest one of the year for the Westhope Course.
Food was served at the event and the proceeds went towards funding for the Westhope Pool. There was also a raffle held. Prizes included a putter, a youth golf set, a 42 inch TV and a Vikings golf bag. Margo Helgerson won the putter.
The women's tournament took place on Saturday. Three teams placed in the winnings. First place went to Loni Hall, Candice Eagle Hall, Katie Hall, and Cheryl Bruce of Parshall. Second place went to Katie Cooper, AJ Houmann, Christy Houmann, and Kelsey Opdahl of Westhope. In third place was Sandy Zaste, Molly Lee, Courtney Hahn, and Ashley Hett of Westhope and Bottineau.
