Bowbells School
Acquires New Bus
|
The Bowbells School District has a new 2010 bus thanks to a ARRA Clean Diesel Grant that was offered through the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. To qualify for the grant the district had to get board approval to move forward with the details of the grant, receive three bids, and follow all the application requirements.
"The sticky part of the process was having a bus that qualified to be destroyed," said Superintendent Brent Johnston.
Since the reason for granting schools funds for new busses was to get rid of dirty fuel engines and replace their old busses with cleaner burning engines, evidence of the destroyed bus was needed.

|
(Minot January 19, 2010) The Upper Dakota Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D) has been recognized as the 2009 North Dakota Earth Team Group Award Winner. The RC&D Council was commended for its use and recruitment of volunteers and creating partnerships in development of a native plant garden at the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot. Lisa Lund with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) presented the award of a traveling trophy and Gary Miller Print to Margo Helgerson, Chairman of the Upper Dakota RC&D Council during the Council’s January meeting.
The RC&D was recognized for creating partnerships that included the Juvenile Drug Court, the Roosevelt Park Zoo, the NRCS Plant Materials Center, the Ward County Soil Conservation District and the Upper Dakota RC&D Council. The project received news coverage from the Westhope Standard, Minot Daily News, KXMC-TV and KMOT-TV. During National RC&D Week, September 20-26, the President of the National Association of RC&D Councils and the President of the ND RC&D Association toured the project. Backyard Conservation culminated with a new educational display at the Zoo, which sees 75,000 visitors each year and a thank you letter for assisting the Earth Team Volunteer Program from the NRCS State Conservationist presented to the youth and the Juvenile Court Judge for inclusion in the youth’s case file. The three youth involved with the project contributed time to the project valued at over $600.
