Duane Stark presented Pioneer Award at Seed Show and Ag Expo
In 1956, Duaneís parents moved to Kenmare. That year he married Louise Fuchs and they made their home on the family farm. They raised chickens, pigs, geese, and milked cows. In the early 60ís they increased the number of dairy cows and began selling milk to Wenger Cheese in Towner. They continued the dairy operation until 1985. Although the dairy cows were sold, they continued to raise beef cattle.

Over the years, Duane has worn many hats. He worked at the Tolley elevator for a time, and spent three years working as a roughneck in the late 50ís. He has worked as a carpenter on many projects in Minot, including Job Corp Center, the MAFB hospital, and the library on the MSU campus. He also worked on the coal gasification plant at Beulah.

As someone who has a love of history and a desire to preserve the early farming heritage, he was a founding member of the Mouse River Loop Threshing Association. In his spare time he restored a threshing machine and a cook car which were used at the threshing shows. He is at present a board member of the Renville County Historical Society.

In the past, Duane has served on the boards of the Greene Elevator, Kenmare Farmers Mutual Insurance, the Mouse River Park, Evangelical Lutheran Church, and RBAIA.

Duane and Louise have two children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He retired from farming in 2011 and enjoys playing cards, traveling, and reading.
