We are just days away from the beginning of May. That means that we will be moving into the final month of school for the season. Hard to believe! Even though it is the last month of school, it always seems like the busiest -- track and field meets, golf meets, baseball games, softball games, field trips, spring concerts, and whatever else can be fit into those final days.

Even though the spring sports got an earlier start this year, due to the nice winter we had, there have been some bone chilly days they have had to compete in. Let’s hope that when we turn the calendar from April to May, the cold, damp weather will also make the change and we will start getting some warmer temperatures and less wind. Good luck to all the athletes as they finish out their spring seasons.

Congratulations to The Hangout, who will hold their Grand Opening this Friday, April 29th in Mohall. A big thank you to Bonnie and Dean Lehman and Jenn Davis on getting the business up and running. It will not only be a place for the kids to ‘hangout’ but it will also be a place for families to go and have fun together.

The Hangout will also be a place for you to hold your birthday parties, pizza parties, class parties, etc. and maybe even for a family fun event. It will be nice for the kids to have a place to skate, get some exercise, and hangout with their friends.

I remember all those weekends that we went down to the Mouse River Park to skate. We would put on those skates and go around and around in that building for hours skating to music. We had fun and it passed a lot of time.

Next weekend is the 130th annual North Dakota Newspaper Association convention. This year the convention is being held in Crosby. Even though the convention is closer for me to attend, I will not be going.

I do want to extend my congratulations to Glen Froseth, who will be one of two former North Dakota Newspaper editors who will be inducted into the North Dakota Newspaper Association Hall of Fame. Both Glen and Terry have been great mentors for me since I took over the Renville County Farmer. They both have been willing to offer advice and help when I needed it. So congratulations Glen on your honor. The other colleague being inducted into the NDNA Hall of Fame is Mike Jacobs, editor of the Grand Forks Herald.

Happy birthday to former employee, Matt Strandberg, who will celebrate his birthday tomorrow, April 28th.
