Glenburn Lady Panthers under new leadership

The Glenburn Panthers girls’ basketball team is under new leadership this year. Coaching the Lady Panthers is Jordan Pederson. Jordan served four years as the assistant boys’ basketball coach at Our Redeemer’s Christian School under Jeremy Feller before coming to Glenburn this year. He is being assisted by Kallie Erickson, who is also new to the Panther program.

Glenburn varsity team members include: Seniors - Stephanie Rogers, Samantha Koetter, Parker Bush, Katie Dufner, and Samantha Beauregard; Juniors - Sierra Payne and Taylor Christianson; Sophomores - Anna Zelinski, Latasha Dean, and Randi Long, who is currently on the injury list; and Freshman - Isabella Spokely.

Coach Pederson was asked what some of the Panthers’ team strengths were. He replied by saying, “I see us as a strong team that will be able to create mis-matches and give us some nice looks around the basket.” He went on to say, “We are also a mature team with five seniors that can provide leadership.”

As for an area of concern for the Panthers, he says, “Having a positive and confident mentality.”

Like other teams in the District, Glenburn looks to Ryan as being a favorite. Coach Pederson says, “Ryan is big, fast, smart, and every girl on the floor wants to score.” He also feels Rugby will be a strong region contender as he feels they are fast, disciplined, and have good shooters.

When asked who the Panthers will look to for leadership, he stated, “I expect strong leadership from all my seniors, whether they are on the floor or the bench. Each one is capable.”

The Lady Panthers’ main goal this year is to get to regionals and win their first round. Coach Pederson said in order to do this the team has to change their mentality.

Glenburn currently has a record of 5 wins and 9 losses. On Tuesday, January 20th the Panthers hosted Max for a non-conference game. Score from that game was not known by the RCF press time. The Lady Panthers’ remaining schedule is as follows:

Friday, January 23rd: vs. Our Redeemer’s Christian School.
Saturday, January 24th: at Divide County.
Thursday, January 29th: at Surrey.
Monday, February 9th: vs. Burke County at Bowbells.
February 12th, 13th, and 14th: District 12 Tournament at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
February 23rd, 24th, and 26th: Region 6 Tournament at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
