Boys’ District 12 Basketball Tournament wrapped up on Monday, March 2nd

The Boys’ District 12 Basketball Tournament opened up on Friday, February 27th at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. Three opening round games were played that day, with Lewis and Clark/Berthold, the #1 seed, receiving a first round bye.
The first game of the day had the No. 5 seed, Surrey, defeat the No. 4 seed, DeLacs-Burlington 56 to 38.

In the second game on Friday, February 27th, the No. 2 seed, Our Redeemer’s matched up with the No. 7 seed, Mohall Lansford Sherwood.
Our Redeemer’s held a one point 16 to 15 lead after one quarter. The Knights then opened up a 41 to 25 half-time lead by outscoring MLS 25 to 10 in the second quarter. The Knights continued to cruise in the second half as they outscored the Mavericks 18 to 12 in the third quarter and 11 to 10 in the fourth quarter for the 70 to 47 opening round victory.

Top scorer for the Knights was Davis Koppinger with 17 points.

The final opening round game of the day had the No. 6 seed, Glenburn, matching up with the No. 3 seed, Minot Ryan.
The Panthers from Glenburn jumped out early and took a 21 to 14 first quarter lead over Bishop Ryan and then saw their lead cut to just two points at the half, as Ryan outscored them 9 to 4 in the second quarter. Both teams went into the locker at the half with Glenburn up 25 to 23. Ryan outscored Glenburn 15 to 9 in the third quarter and 18 to 11 in the fourth quarter to come back and win the game 56 to 45.

Leading scorer for the Bishop Ryan Lions was Tanner Sanders with 17 points.

On Saturday, February 28th, the first consolation loser-out game had DesLacs/Burlington receiving a bye and advancing to the Region play-in games on Monday.
The second consolation loser-out game matched up the two teams from Renville County - Glenburn against Mohall Lansford Sherwood.
Glenburn held a two point 12 to 10 first quarter lead over Mohall Lansford Sherwood and then outscored the Mavericks 12 to 9 in the second quarter for a 24 to 19 lead at the half. The Panthers came out and outscored the Mavericks 13 to 11 in the third quarter to build their lead to 37 to 30 heading into the fourth quarter. Glenburn outscored MLS 17 to 13 in the final quarter for the 54 to 43 victory, eliminating the Mavericks from further tournament play. Glenburn would advance to the Region qualifier game on Monday and were to play Surrey.

Two semifinal games were also played on Saturday, February 28th.
The first semi-final game saw Lewis and Clark/Berthold defeat Surrey 44 to 39.
Bishop Ryan upset Our Redeemer’s 64 to 58 in the other semi-final game.
The District 12 tournament wrapped up at the Minot Municipal Auditorium on Monday, March 2nd with the finals - two Region qualifier games and the 2015 District 12 Championship.
In the first Region qualifier game, DesLacs/Burlington matched up with Our Redeemer’s.
The second Region qualifier game had Glenburn playing Surrey.
Playing for this year’s District 12 title were Lewis and Clark/Berthold and Minot Bishop Ryan Lions.
Results from those three games were not known by press time. The two Region qualifier winners and the first and second place teams will all advance to the Region 6 Tournament at the Minot State University Dome on March 9th, 10th, and 12th.
Junior High Basketball
MLS vs. Glenburn
The MLS junior high boys’ basketball teams traveled to Glenburn on Friday, February 20th for two games.
MLS won the 7th grade game, as they defeated Glenburn 38 to 12. Scoring for Glenburn was not made available. MLS scoring: Henry Savelkoul 14, Adam Southam 6, Riley Vendsel 6, JayDen Hanson 5, Garrett Schmidt 4, and Kaleb Foltyn 2.
The 8th grade game was also won by the Mavericks, as they defeated the Glenburn Panthers 36 to 29. Individual scoring for Glenburn was not made available. MLS scoring: Jamison Vetter 10, Dalton Moberg 8, Riley Strand 6, Jacob Gates 6, Charlie Eriksmoen 4, and Ethan Southam 2.
Girls’ State Class B Basketball pairings
The Girls’ State Class B Basketball Tournament will be held at the Minot State University Dome on March 5th, 6th, and 7th. First round pairings are as follows:
1:00 p.m.: Kindred vs. Parshall.
2:45 p.m.: Lakota/Edmore vs. LaMoure/Litchville/Marion.
6:30 p.m.: Minot Bishop Ryan vs. Shiloh Christian.
8:15 p.m.: Thompson vs. Dickinson Trinity.
All opening round games on Thursday and the evening games on Friday and Saturday can be seen on ABC TV.
