KB-MLS takes a pair of games from Central McLean

KB-MLS girls are on the field, playing defense, in their game against Central McLean, which was played at the Mohall Softball Complex on Friday, April 11th. Pictured for the KB-MLS girls are Chelsea Nelson at 1st base, Shania Brackenbury at Shortstop, Codee Gilbertson at 3rd base, Sierra Linstead on the pitcher’s mound, and Becca Schoenberg way out in left field. The Kenmare-Bowbells-Mohall Lansford Sherwood (KB-MLS) girls’ fastpitch softball team hosted Central McLean for a conference game played at the Mohall Softball Complex on Friday, April 14th. A doubleheader was played, with the first game counting in the standings.

Central McLean scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. It wasn’t until the bottom of the third when KB-MLS got on the scoreboard and took a lead, as they came across with four runs, making it a 4 to 1 game. Neither team would score in the fourth inning, so the game remained 4 to 1 in favor of KB-MLS. But then in the top of the fifth, Central McLean scored 5 runs on 4 hits to take a two run lead, 6 to 4. However, KB-MLS managed to come up big in the bottom of the sixth, when they scored 7 runs on 5 hits to take back the lead, up 11 to 6. Central McLean was able to cut into that lead, as they scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough, so KB-MLS went on to win 11 to 8.

On the mound and picking up the win for KB-MLS was Emily Abernathey, who was relieved in the top of the sixth by Sierra Linstead.

KB-MLS scored their 11 runs on 8 hits. Credited with those hits were: Emily Abernathey 2, and 1 each for Codee Gilbertson, Kayla Mortensen, Karis Murry, Becca Schoenberg, Shania Brackenbury, and Chelsea Nelson.

The second game of the evening was a quick one, as KB-MLS won that in three innings, 13 to 0. KB-MLS came across with 12 runs in the first inning and then scored another run in the second for the win.

Emily Abernathey was back on the mound for KB-MLS and gave up only two hits, struck out five batters, and walked three batters.

With the cold weather, snow, and wind, KB-MLS has not been back on the field for a game.

Hopes are for the weather to hold out so they can get back on the diamond this week. They were scheduled to host Stanley on Tuesday, April 22nd and are to host Wilton/Wing on Monday, April 28th.

Muskrats defeat Ray 15 to 1
The Mohall Lansford Sherwood - Glenburn - Kenmare - Bowbells (MLS-G-KB) baseball team was in Ray on Friday, April 11th for a high school game. MLS-G-KB came home with the win, as they defeated Ray 15 to 1 in a five inning game.

MLS-G-KB started the game off with 4 runs on 4 hits, and then added another three runs in the top of the second to make it a 7 to 0 game. But Ray did manage to bring in a run in the bottom of the second to get on the scoreboard and make it a 7 to 1 game. MLS-G-KB answered with a run of their own in the top of the third, and then had 5 runs in the fourth and 2 runs in the fifth for the 15 to 1 victory.

For the game, MLS-G-KB scored their 15 runs on 11 hits, while Ray scored their 1 run on 4 hits.

Hunter Rodin pitched the first three innings for the Muskrats and was relieved in the fourth by Isaac Undlin. Rodin was credited with the win. The two combined for a total of 9 strikeouts, with Rodin getting 5 and Undlin 4, and they had no walks. Tanner Reinholdt was the losing pitcher for Ray and went the distance, giving up 11 hits, 7 base on balls, and had 5 strikeouts.

Getting the hits for the Muskrats were: Trevor Evanger - a single; Talon Thompson - a single and a double; Connor Brackenbury - a double; Douglas Winzenburg - a single; Riley Brown - 2 triples; Berkley Santos - a single; Brett Froseth - a single and a double; and Hunter Rodin - a single.

It has also been a struggle for the boys to get back on the diamonds due to the cold weather and snow.

The Muskrats were scheduled to play in Lansford last night, Tuesday, April 22nd, when they were to host New Town. They are scheduled to play Lewis and Clark at Berthold on Thursday, April 24th at 4:15 p.m. and host DesLacs/Burlington at Lansford on Friday, April 25th with a 4:15 p.m. start. Then on Tuesday, April 29th, they will host Ray at Lansford. That game is scheduled to begin at 4:15
