Minot Area Community Foundation grants
$32,000 to MLS High School graduates from the
Anna S. and Harold A.C. Bergstrom Scholarship Fund

The Minot Area Community Foundation’s Anna S. and Harold A.C. Bergstrom Scholarship Fund has invested $32,000 in the post-secondary education of four MLS High School graduates.

The scholarship awards were open to all graduating Mohall Lansford Sherwood High School seniors who will be enrolling in a post-secondary institution following high school graduation to pursue a career important to rural North Dakota. The 2015 scholarship recipients were: Madeline Solemsaas ($11,000), Connor Brackenbury ($7,000), Kilee Radzwill ($7,000), and Andrew Wherley ($7,000).

Selection for scholarship awards for the Bergstrom Scholarship Fund were based on the students’ scholastic and vocational achievements/ability and their explanation of how their chosen career is important to and will benefit rural North Dakota, as this was Harold and Anna Bergstrom’s intent.

“The Community Foundation is honored to carry out the wishes of Harold and Anna with the gift of education to the youth of their community through their Scholarship Fund,” remarked Ken Kitzman, MACF President.

Renville County Scholarship winner



The Renville County Employees’ Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce their 2015 scholarship winner. The 2015 recipient is Sidney Spokely, a senior at Glenburn High School.

Sidney is the daughter of Chad and Jodi Spokely of Glenburn. She has been very active in volleyball, band, choir, and Student Council. In the fall, Sidney is planning on attending Minot State University and studying nursing. Sidney will receive a $350.00 scholarship to help defray college costs this fall.

Numerous Renville County employees voluntarily donate to and sponsor this scholarship as a project for National County Government Month held in April.

4-H Communication Arts contest held

The 2015 Renville County 4-H Communication Arts Contest was held on Wednesday, April 13th at the MLS-Mohall School. The Communication Arts Contest is designed to help 4-H’ers develop communication skills that are useful throughout a lifetime and to practice these skills before a group.

Participating in the Communication Arts-Interpretive Reading contest, Teen Division, was Hayley Southam of Sherwood who received Reserve Champion and Grace Solemsaas of Sherwood who received a Grand Champion. In the Clover Division of Interpretive Reading was Lilly Solemsaas of Sherwood.

Participating in the Communication Arts Dramatic Presentation contest, Teen Division, and receiving a Grand Champion was Codee Gilbertson of Sherwood.

Participating in the Communication Arts Demonstration, Teen Division, and receiving a Grand Champion was Shannon Asheim of Mohall.

Participating in the Communication Illustrated Talk contest, Teen Division, and receiving a Grand Champion was Madeline Solemsaas of Sherwood.



Metigoshe Ministries to bring its camp to Mohall

A diverse and exciting program of arts and crafts, Bible studies, daily worship, camp songs, picnics, games, and other activities will be offered to area youth during the week of June 2nd through the 5th.

Metigoshe Ministries’ day camp program is a way to bring a portion of Camp Metigoshe, with its excitement and fervor for the Gospel, to this area. Counselors from Camp Metigoshe will arrive Tuesday for a week of “Adventure Anchored in Christ” with young people entering grades 1 through 6.

The day camp will meet at Zion Lutheran Church in Mohall from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2nd through Thursday, June 4th, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5th. The cost is free. Children are encouraged to bring their Bibles, sack lunches, and energy for a fun-filled week. Careful supervision, vibrant worship, exciting adventures, and meaningful ministry are ensured. Metigoshe Ministries is a Lutheran (ELCA) summer youth Bible camp and year-round retreat center located north of Bottineau. Each summer, Metigoshe Ministries provides day camping experiences to Lutheran congregations throughout North Dakota. Last year, over 900 children participated in many day camps.

Camp Metigoshe is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and owned and operated by over 70 ELCA congregations.
