This week is National Volunteer Week, and I would like to thank each and every one of you who take the time out of your busy days to do the volunteer work that you do. It may be for a community project, it may be to protect your community, it may be to help out your neighbor, or it may be just because it makes you feel good to do a good deed. Whatever it may be -- thank you, thank you, thank you!

A community does not survive without volunteers and we should all be thankful for those that do volunteer. Volunteering can be rewarding and whenever you have the opportunity to help out - please step forward and volunteer.

I'll Show You A Volunteer
(Author Unknown)

Show me a person who spends endless hours in training without pay,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person where a cry for help brings split-second dispatch,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person who is devastated when lives are lost or maimed,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person who is graciously welcomed as a next-door neighbor,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person who often takes more ridicule than complaints,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person whose car is garaged with the grille facing out,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person who sacrifices home life, TV ... even tender moments,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person visibly moved at the strains of our National Anthem,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person who may be asked to give more than just dedication,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.
Show me a person who is asked to give more ... and more ... and more,
And, I'll show you a volunteer.

I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to my uncle and godfather, Don Erickson, who celebrates his birthday today, April 15th. He recently informed me that he is going to be a great-grandpa, as his grandson, Cody, and his wife, are expecting a baby. Love you, Uncle -- and Happy Birthday!

Also, a Happy Birthday to my great-nephew, Ethan Cox of CA who will celebrate his birthday on the 18th; and to my great-niece, Maddy Johnson of Mohall, who celebrates the next day, April 19th. Love to you both!

My Small TowN
By Tom Fobbe

MySmallTown has happy folks,
content with how things are.
Grateful for the things we’ve got,
and how life’s been so far.

Taking care of all that’s ours,
and helping others too.
Trying hard to do our best,
enjoying all we do.
