MLS Lady Mavericks open up season with 39 to 34 win over Divide County

Mohall Lansford Sherwood traveled to Crosby on Tuesday, December 2nd for a girls’ non-conference game against the Divide County Maroons.

The game was tied at 11 to 11 after one period, and then Divide County outscored MLS 7 to 2 in the second quarter for an 18 to 13 half-time lead. The Lady Mavericks outscored the Lady Maroons 14 to 6 in the third quarter for a 27 to 24 lead heading in to the final quarter. MLS outscored Divide County 12 to 10 in the fourth quarter for a 39 to 34 victory, their first of the season.

Top scorer for Divide County was Hannah Jacobs with 16 points.

Scoring for MLS: Emily Abernathey 16 (1-3), 3 steals, 3 rebs., 1 assist; Macy Feland 8, 1 steal, 11 rebs., 4 assists; Hailee Depute 7, 5 steals, 5 rebs., 2 assists; Allison Voigt 4, 1 steal, 3 rebs., 1 assist; Aubree Vendsel 2, 2 steals, 4 rebs., 2 assists; Morgan Depute 2, 2 rebs., 3 assists; Calli Brackenbury 1 steal, 1 reb.; and Jennah Haygood 2 rebs., 2 assists.

MLS shot 33% from the field, made 4 of 8 freethrows for 50%, pulled down 31 rebs., dished out 14 assists, had 13 steals, committed 20 turnovers, and were called for 9 fouls. Divide County shot 39% from the field, made 2 of 7 freethrows for 29%, pulled down 24 rebs., dished out 8 assists, had 8 steals, committed 23 turnovers, and were called for 11 fouls.

Next action for the Lady Mavericks will be this Thursday, December 11th when they will host Max at MLS-Mohall. Game times are 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, December 13th, MLS will host a girls’ and boys’ doubleheader at MLS-Sherwood against TGU. Games start at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon.


Glenburn Panthers finish 5th
at CNDC Tournament in Rugby

The Glenburn Panthers girls’ basketball team opened up their 2014-2015 season at the CNDC Tournament which was held in Rugby on December 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Glenburn faced Harvey-Wells County in their opening round game. The Panthers trailed 7 to 15 after the first quarter of play and were down at the half by a score of 13 to 31. Harvey-Wells County outscored the Panthers 24 to 21 in the second half for the 55 to 34 win.

Leading scorer for Harvey-Wells County was Alecia Koropatnicki with 18 points.

Individual scoring for Glenburn: Sierra Payne 12, Sam Koetter 11, Sam Beauregard 6, and Katie Dufner 5.

In other first round games, Rugby defeated St. John 70 to 24; TGU beat New Rockford-Sheyenne by a score of 36 to 28; and Rolla defeated Drake-Anamoose 58 to 29.

Glenburn then moved into the consolation round on Friday, December 5th and had to play Drake-Anamoose. The Panthers from Glenburn took a lead into the locker rooms at the half, as they outscore Drake-Anamoose 18 to 7. Glenburn went on to win the game 49 to 19.

Leading scorer for Drake-Anamoose was Grace Buri with 8 points.

Scoring for the Panthers: Samantha Koetter 21, Parker Bush 5, Katie Dufner 4,Samantha Beauregard 4, Stephanie Rogers 4, Sierra Payne 3, Taylor Christianson 2, Harlee Gunning 2, Anna Zelinski 2, and McKayla Baker 2.

The other consolation semi-final game had New Rockford-Sheyenne beating St. John 55 to 41.

Semi-final games in the winners bracket had Rugby moving into the championship game with their 43 to 27 win over TGU; and Harvey-Wells County edged Rolla by a point, 46 to 45.

Finals were played on Saturday, December 6th.

St. John took home the 7th place honors, as they defeated Drake-Anamoose 38 to 25.

Glenburn battled New Rockford - Sheyenne for the consolation title, with the Panthers winning that battle 43 to 40. The Panthers trailed 4 to 11 after one quarter, and then were up 21 to 18 at the half. New Rockford - Sheyenne had a one point lead, 28 to 27 after three quarters of play; but in the end, Glenburn came out on top 43 to 40.

Top scorer for New Rockford - Sheyenne was Elizabeth Holzwarth with 16 points.

Glenburn scoring: Katie Dufner 21, Parker Bush 10, Samantha Beauregard 6, Anna Zelinski 5, and Taylor Christianson 1.

The third place game had Rolla beating TGU by a final score of 49 to 25.

Harvey-Wells County went on to win the CNDC title, as they defeated Rugby in a close game, 36 to 33.

MLS vs.
Divide County

The MLS girls’ junior varsity team opened up their 2014 - 2015 season on the road, when they traveled to Crosby for a game against Divide County. MLS came home with the win, as they defeated the Maroons 37 to 33.

Scoring for the Mavericks: Calli Brackenbury 9, Delaine Hanson 8, Morgan Depute 6, Morgan Raap 5, Jennah Haygood 2, Hayley Southam 1, and Mikaylee Bahl 1.


MLS vs. Westhope/Newburg
The MLS 7th graders were in Westhope on Thursday, November 20th for a girls’ junior high basketball game against the Sioux. MLS picked up the win, as they defeated the Sioux 37 to 12.

Scoring for the Mavericks: Leah Feland 8, Trinity Guenthner 6, Summer Smith 6, Eden Howery 5, Hallie Schmidt 4, Janie Savelkoul 4, and Tara Haygood 2.
