Hope you all enjoyed the nice 4th of July holiday. It certainly was nice to have some sunshine, warm temperatures, and not much wind. After our last weekend of being dumped on with rain, it was nice to see some of the water slowly disappearing.

There still are several township roads closed due to the high water levels in those areas. Please use caution and if you see the sign “ROAD CLOSED” please abide by it in not traveling down the road. Some roads had to be cut due to the water in those areas in order to allow the water to flow across into the ditches. Therefore, you might think that the water is just running across, but in actuality, there is a big hole in that road. So if you see the Road Closed sign -- turn back and find an alternate route.

You may also see load limits on some roads due to all the water and the fact that they are very soft.

If anyone in the county has damages to their roads from the June 27th to 29th rains, they are asked to submit photos of those damages, along with a description of the location, to Kristy Titus, Renville County Emergency Manager, as soon as possible, as she will be submitting all this information to the state. This information will be used by the state to see if they will meet the one million dollar disaster threshold for federal funding from FEMA.

All the large amounts of water has been on the minds of everyone and it has been the talk of the county.

Don’t forget that today, Wednesday, July 9th is the end of the Renville County Fair. Also, this weekend will be another big weekend here in Renville County. The Mouse River Ranch Rodeo will be held at the Sherwood Arena on Saturday, July 12th, and that will be followed by a Street Dance in Sherwood. That same day, July 12th, the annual Motorcycle and Car Show will be held in the parking lot at The Club in Mohall. Both will draw a lot of people to both of those communities. There is also the Ag Appreciation Day at the Mohall Country Club on Thursday, July 10th; RBAIA Crop Tour at the Mohall Country Club on July 15th; the Dakota Agronomy Partners Ultimate Plot Tour on July 15th; plus a lot of baseball and softball action throughout the week.

So there is plenty to do -- get out and enjoy the nice weather and take in these events. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for all of them.

This week as I close my column, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to my Aunt Cheryl Luethje and son, Mike, and daughter, Michelle and her family in the loss of their daughter and sister, Tina Virtz. Tina passed away in Minnesota on Sunday, June 29th.

Tina was a very special person. She was born with Cerebral Palsy and spent the majority of her life in a wheelchair. However, that never stopped her from living her life to the fullest. When she was younger, Tina was able to come to North Dakota with her family and visit. She had just as much fun as all of the rest of us. She always had the biggest smile and loved to laugh. The last night I saw Tina was when she was at the Anne Carlson School in Jamestown. I had the opportunity to visit her there a couple of times. She loved it there, and was always happy to visit and show me around. On top of her battle with Cerebral Palsy she also battled cancer later in life. I know she is in a better place now and is free from all of those life-long challenges she had to face. God bless you Tina!

Family wishes this week go out to my brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Kathryn Erickson, who are celebrating their anniversary today, July 9th; to my dad, Roy, who celebrates his birthday on the 10th; and to little Adam Schultz of MN on the 13th. Love and best wishes to all of you on your special day!
