Feb. 15, 1926 - Feb. 5, 2014
Delores (Geiger) Bryan of Bemidji, MN and formerly of Bowbells, ND died on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at the Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 11 at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Bowbell with Rev. James McBride officiating. Interment of her cremains will take place at the Bowbells Cemetery in Bowbells.

Delores was born February 15, 1926 at home near Cavalier, the daughter of Winifield “Happy” and Lorraine (Coss) Geiger. She was raised in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1944. She attended North Dakota State University for two years and also attended Minot State College. For one year she taught Third Grade in Crosby.

On June 18, 1947 Delores married Floyd “Speedy” Irvin Bryan Jr, the love of her life. They farmed near Bowbells. After retiring they moved to Bagley, MN where they resided in the Villages of Bagley. Following her husband’s death Delores moved to Wind Song in Bemidji, MN.

Delores loved her life as a farm wife and devoted her life to her husband and family. She and her husband were truly in love until his death on June 11, 2005.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bowbells where she served as a treasurer and a member of the United Methodist Church Women. Delores also had served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Her favorite place to go in Minnesota was Itasca State Park and in North Dakota, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Medora. Colleen Mickelsen
March 8, 1928 - June 28, 2014
Colleen Unice Mickelsen began her celebration of eternal life on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Trinity Health, Minot, ND with her family companioning her all the way “home.”

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. Internment will take place at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Born March 8, 1928 in Burke County to Alfred and Bertha (Tracy) Johnson, she was the youngest of ten children. She attended grade school in Bowbells and graduated from Bowbells High School in 1946.

On June 5, 1948, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Mickelsen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bowbells. They were the proud parents of five children.

An avid reader all of her life, Colleen instilled that wealth in her children’s lives. Always immersed in her Catholic faith, she was active in Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, teaching CCD, and served on the parish Council. In later years, she was active in Serra Club and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was a charter member. Colleen was a President’s Club “Avon Lady.” She and Lawrence graced the dance floor at the Moose Lodge with their Saturday evening presence.

A very social person, Colleen enjoyed many special friendships all her life. When lonely or down, she would arrange coffee parties, to turn a sad day into one blest with friends. Proud of her Irish and Swedish roots, she faithfully attended the Norsk Hostfest for over 25 years, hosting guests in her home until 2012.

Gifted with a strong personality, she was a stable guide for her family through Lawrence’s 36 year career with the Burlington Northern Railroad, a job necessitating his frequent absence.

Colleen loved being a “stay at home mom” and hearing the greeting “Hey Mom, what’s up?” She did work in food service at Perkett Elementary school for several years. She was a great cook and was a sharp, good- natured card player. Colleen had quick wit and her playful sense of humor added “vinegar” to many gatherings.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Lawrence; son, Larry; grandson, Gary Dalen; siblings, brother, Ralph Johnson and sisters, Kay O’Connell, Ann Rubbelke, Lucile Patrick, Ilene Johnson, Florence Siebert, Elizabeth Ness, infant sister Genevieve Johnson, Dolores Sundin; and in-laws, Margaret (Bud) Barry, Irvin (Leone) Mickelsen, Arnold (Ilene) Mickelsen, Fred Propp, Joe O’Connell, Francis Rubbelke, George Patrick, Lily Johnson and Emmett Ness.

Colleen is survived by: daughters, Colleen (Joe) Ressler of Mandan; Sharon (Steve) Dalen of Great Falls, MT; Colette (Greg)Furness of Andover, MN; son, Tony Mickelsen of Everett, WA; 11 grandchildren, Alicia Flickinger, Jonathan Mickelsen, Doug Dalen, Justin Mickelsen, Christopher Furness, Jennifer Furness, Matthew Furness, Angela Arsencault, Anthony Mickelsen, Katherine Furness, Maria Furness; 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lila Propp; brothers-in-law, Lyle Sundin and William Siebert. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and special friends.

The family wishes to thank the sixth floor staff at Trinity Health and Hospice staff for their compassionate, excellent care, Father Charlie Heidt, Father Bruce Krebs, Monsignor Joseph Senger, Deacon Chuck Kramer, Chaplain Cliff Nelson and Chaplain Brian Krebs.

The family prefers memorials given in Colleen’s honor to Bishop Ryan School Foundation or Trinity Hospice.

IONE SORENSEN
Feb. 6, 1932 - Jan. 24, 2014
Ione Maxine Sorensen, 81, of Mesa, AZ (formerly of Kenmare, ND) passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at the Caring Heart Terrace. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23 at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery near Powers Lake. There will be a celebration of Ione’s life following the graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at the Pizza Hub in Kenmare.

Ione was born February 6, 1932 in Burke County, ND to the union of Art and Anna (Nygaard) Anderson. She was the Class of 1950 Valedictorian of Flaxton High School in Flaxton. She was employed at the Bowbells Bank prior to marrying Gordon Sorensen on October 5, 1952, then moved to California where Gordon completed Mortuary School. They then moved to Grand Forks, and later to Tioga in 1958. She worked as the Office Manager in the family funeral home. In 1967, they purchased Ringen Funeral Home in Kenmare and worked at Sorenson Funeral Home until 1975. Ione and Gordon then purchased and operated a grain farm in Kelliher, Saskatchewan.

In 1981, her husband passed away and she began spending her winters in Arizona eventually moving there. Ione worked for Carr-Tenney Mortuary from 1984 until 1991. She retired briefly and then worked as the Office Manager in her son’s accounting firm for the next 14 years and retired at the young age of 76.

Her favorite job in Arizona was the role of grandmother. Ione touched the lives of everyone she met. Her kindness and friendship was unconditional and she was everyone’s best friend. Ione often wondered why total strangers would confide their life stories and struggles to her. She may not have known but the rest of us knew God handpicked Ione to represent him as an Angel on earth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her parents; and brothers, Darvin and Art Jr. (Sonny).
Ione is survived by her daughter, Judy Petersen of Henderson, NV; son, Randy of Mesa, AZ; brother, Larry Anderson of Des Lacs; granddaughters, Jaime Frink of Neenah, WI and Dena Petersen of Mesa, AZ; and great grandchildren, Cole, Madison and William.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Foundation of America.

(Springan Funeral Home, Stanley)
