I would like to begin by extending my deepest sympathy to the Bill Allen Family. Bill and Doris Allen and the two boys, Jon and Bob, lived across the street from us, so we knew them quite well. I was also a classmate of Bobís. We saw Bill a lot out in the yard mowing or trimming or picking those delicious apples from their apple trees. We even got to enjoy some of those apples when they were in an abundance.

Bill was a true Yellowjacket. He was a great supporter of all the teams and was a member of the Yellowjacket Booster Club. He drove the school bus for many years, as well as driving for many activities. He enjoyed being with us kids. Bill even belonged to the Killer Bees Band and played at School Reunions. He and his brother were great musicians.

He was very active in the community and he will be missed!

Roger and Kathryn finally got to move into their house on Saturday. They have waited a long, long time due to the fact that the contractors that the company hired to complete the work, once the house was moved onto the foundation in Mohall, didnít get their stuff done on time. There are still a few things that need to be completed come early spring -- like putting in the central air -- but for now, things have been completed enough for them to receive the keys and move in. They have a home again -- and I couldnít be happier for them! They have waited a long time and have been anxious to get into it. They spent their first night there on Saturday.

Congratulations Roger and Kathryn -- may you enjoy many, many happy times together in that new house for years to come. You both certainly deserve it! I love you both!!

We are nearing the halfway point of winter -- February 4th. This past week it seemed like winter was over, but Saturday brought us back to reality when it started to rain, then switched to ice pellets, and before we knew it, it was snowing outside. I donít think the snow we received on Saturday will stick around very long though, as the temperatures were to be back up in the 30ís the early part of this week and we are to even enjoy high teens to mid 20ís for the lows in the evening. Letís just hope we donít have to skate the rest of the winter!

Temperatures stayed cool enough on Saturday and Sunday to allow the skating rink to be froze up for the Family Fun Day in Mohall on Sunday. By mid-week last week my great-niece and nephews were already wondering what would happen if there was no ice for the event, as it was starting to melt. I told them we would just have to wait and see.

The below freezing temperatures kept the ice in shape and the Minot Minotauros, NAHL Junior Hockey players and coaches showed up and all had a great time. Thank you to all of them that took the time from their schedules to come to Mohall and skate, visit, sign autographs, and have pictures taken with the youth. It is something they will remember for a long time.

Also, a special thanks to all those who had a part in putting the event together. Many times we donít acknowledge those who put things like this on. I donít know all the names of everyone involved, but Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Thanks also to Kelsey for taking pictures for me, so that I could be at the office and get the paper finished up and work on basketball programs for the boysí basketball game on Monday night held at Sherwood against Sawyer.

A special birthday wish this week goes out to a great friend and one heck of a great basketball coach and youth baseball coach - Wayne Brackenbury. He will celebrate his birthday on Thursday, January 29th. Happy Birthday Wayne -- enjoy your special day.

Family birthday wishes this week go out to my cousin, Mike Erickson of Lignite, who celebrates his birthday today, Wednesday, January 28th; and to his sister, and my cousin, Jean (Erickson) Skalicky of Minot, who will celebrate her birthday on Tuesday, February 3rd. Love and best wishes to you both! Enjoy your special days!!

February 1st marks the 150th anniversary of Freedom Day. National Freedom Day is an United States observance on February 1st honoring the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1st, 1865, although it was not ratified by the states until later.
