On July 30th the North Dakota EMS Association completed the first year of EMS Management courses.

Over the past year, seven courses were held with six of those being sponsored by the Flex program through the UND Center of Rural Health, and the very first course in June, 2013 was fully sponsored by DEMST (Department Emergency Medicine and Trauma).

Over this past year, 154 EMS leaders have learned about “Introduction to EMS Management” in Course 1; “EMS Finances” in Course 2; and in Course 3, “Human Resources”. Throughout the three courses a variety of topics were covered, which included: bylaws, legal entity ownership, supply management, basic hiring procedures, financial forecasting, building a budget 101, reading financial statements and balance sheets, succession planning, recruitment and retention, policy development, complaint handling, and corrective action.

NDEMSA received funding for an additional six courses for 2014-2015. We will host additional Course 1, 2, and 3, however the content for the other three courses is still being determined. We are looking for suggestions from EMS leaders on what material they would like to see covered.

Attending these courses from Mohall Ambulance Service were: Diane Witteman, Shelley Iverson, Michele Helming, and Randi Anne Jung.
