Renville County Muskrats split with Surrey Blue Soxs

The Renville County Muskrats hosted the Surrey Blue Soxs on Tuesday, July 8th at Lansford. A doubleheader was played.

Surrey got on the board right away in the first inning, as they came up with a solo run. They increased that lead to 3 to 0 in the top of the third, when they scored two more runs. Renville County finally scored in the bottom of the third, as Talon Thompson scored on a hit by Connor Brackenbury. The Blue Soxs answered, as they scored another two runs in the top of the fourth, making it a 5 to 1 game. That lead got cut to 5 to 3, as Renville County came up with two runs, as Ryley Brown and Connor Brackenbury both scored. Then in the final inning, Surrey added another run, increasing their lead to 6 to 2. Talon and Connor scored again in the bottom of the seventh, but it wouldn’t be enough, as Surrey held on for the 6 to 5 win.

For the game, Renville County scored their 5 runs on 6 hits, committed 3 errors, and left 6 men stranded on the bases. Surrey scored their 6 runs on 6 hits, committed 3 errors, and left 5 men on the bases.

On the mound and taking the loss for the Muskrats was Doug Winzenburg, who was relieved by Ryley Brown in the fourth. Behind the plate and doing the catching was Ryley Brown and Doug Winzenburg. Winning pitcher for the Blue Soxs was John Reiten.

Connor Brackenbury lead the Muskrats in hitting, as he went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI. Also credited with hits were Talon Thompson - 1; Doug Winzenburg - 1; and Wyatt Schmidt - 1.

Renville County turned things around in the second game, as they came back to defeat the Surrey Blue Soxs 8 to 4. On the mound and going the distance for the Muskrats was Talon Thompson. Losing pitcher for Surrey was Jacob Burckhard.

The Muskrats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second and then added 5 runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6 to 0 lead. Surrey came up with 2 runs in the top of the fourth, making it a 6 to 2 game, however the Muskrats answered and scored 2 runs of their own, putting them up 8 to 2. The Blue Soxs did manage to add another 2 runs in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough, as Renville County picked up the 8 to 4 win.

For the game, Renville County scored their 8 runs on 7 hits, committed 2 errors, and left 8 men on the bases. Their opponents (Surrey) scored 4 runs on 9 hits, committed 3 errors, and left 6 men stranded on the bases.

Muskrats and Titans split a doubleheader

The Muskrats were back on the diamond in Lansford on Thursday, July 10th when they hosted the Garrison Titans for a doubleheader.

No one scored in the first game until the third inning, when Garrison came up with 2 runs. But the Muskrats would answer in a big way, as they came up with 11 runs in the bottom of that inning to take the lead. Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Muskrats scored another 7 runs, putting them up 18 to 2, which was enough to win the game, after holding the Titans scoreless in the top of the fifth.

For the game, Renville County had 10 hits, committed 3 errors, and left a total of 3 men on the bases. Garrison had 6 hits in the game, committed 5 errors, and left 7 men stranded on the bases.

On the mound and going the distance was Connor Brackenbury, who struck out 6 Titan batters. Behind the plate doing the catching was Ryley Brown.

Credited with the hits for the Muskrats were Connor Brackenbury who was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs; Talon Thompson who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs; Wyatt Schmidt who was 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs; Doug Winzenburg 1 hit and 3 RBIs; Wyatt Thompson 1 hit; and Berkley Santos 1 hit and 2 RBIs.

Game two ended up being a marathon game, as it went 11 innings before a winner was determined. Renville County scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Garrison took the lead in the bottom of the third, as they scored 2 runs, putting them up 2 to 1. Then in the top of the fourth, Renville County came across with 2 runs, regaining the lead, 3 to 2. Garrison came back and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, as they scored another two runs, making it a 4 to 3 game. Then in the top of the seventh, Ryley Brown scored to knot things up at 4 to 4. Renville County then went out into the field and held the Titans scoreless, forcing the game into extra innings. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 11th when Garrison came up with the winning run.

On the mound for the Muskrats was Ryley Brown who threw for 10 innings and was relieved by Connor Brackenbury in the 11th inning. Brackenbury suffered the loss. Behind the plate doing the catching was Doug Winzenburg.

For the game, Renville County scored their 4 runs on 1 hit, committed 6 errors, and left 10 men stranded on the bases. Garrison scored their 5 runs on 7 hits, committed 4 errors, and left 10 men on base as well.

Renville County wins a pair against Watford City
On Wednesday, July 9th the Renville County Mallards hosted Watford City for a doubleheader played at Lansford.

The Mallards won the first game in a three inning game due to the 10-run rule. Final score was 11 to 1.

Winning pitcher for Renville County was Isaac Undlin who struck out 4 Watford City batters. Catcher was Statler Olson. Losing pitcher was Jacob Britton.

Getting hits for the Mallards were: Henry Savelkoul who went 1 for 1 with a single, a run, and two walks (100% on base percentage); Isaac Undlin had a double and a run; Talon Thompson had 100% on base percentage with a double, a walk, and three runs; Statler Olson had 100% on base percentage with a single, two walks, and two runs; Charlie Eriksmoen went 2 for 3 with two singles, one run, and two RBIs; Clay Froseth had two runs; and Dalton Moberg had a single and two RBIs.

Renville County also won the second game, beating Watford City in an extra inning, 3 to 2. Winning pitcher was Dalton Moberg who finished with 5 strike outs. Catcher was Zane Wenstad. Losing pitcher for Watford City was Jake Rogney.

Leading hitters for the Mallards were: Isaac Undlin who had a run; Charlie Eriksmoen had an RBI; Chase Gates went 1 for 2 with a single, a walk, and two runs (including the winning run); Dalton Moberg had two singles and a walk; Zane Wenstad scored the winning run when he hit a sacrifice fly that scored Chase Gates.

Renville County Mallards split against Burlington
Renville County matched up against Burlington on the diamonds in Lansford on Tuesday, July 8th.

Burlington won the first game, beating Renville County by a score of 10 to 6. Losing pitcher for the Mallards was Hunter Rodin, who struck out 5 Burlington batters. Behind the plate catching for Hunter was Nick Eriksmoen. Burlington’s winning pitcher was John Koranka.

Leading hitters for Renville County were: Clay Froseth who had a single, a run, and a walk; Isaac Undlin had 100% on base percentage, two runs, two walks, and a single; Charlie Eriksmoen had a single and a run; and Jacob Rodin had two walks and a run.

Renville County came back and won the second game, beating Burlington 15 to 4. On the mound and getting the win for the Mallards was Nick Eriksmoen, who struck out 5 Burlington batters in two innings. Doing the catching for Renville County was Henry Savelkoul. Losing pitcher was Riley Keller.

Leading hitters for Renville County: Hunter Rodin went 2 for 2 with two singles, a walk, and three runs (100% base percentage); Henry Savelkoul was 1 for 1 with a double, was hit by the pitcher two times, scored three runs, and one RBI (100% base percentage); Isaac Undlin went 1 for 2 with a single, a walk, two runs, and one RBI, and reached on an error (100% base percentage); Charlie Eriksmoen had a run and two RBIs; Chase Gates scored a run; Clay Froseth had a single, a run, and 3 RBIs; Jacob Rodin had a run and a RBI; Zane Wenstad had an RBI; Dalton Moberg had two runs; and Peyton Witt had a run.
