MLS-G-KB Muskrats finish
3rd at the Regional Tournament

The MLS-G-KB Muskrats finished 3rd at this year’s Regional Tournament. The Boys’ Region 7 High School Baseball Tournament got underway on Thursday, May 14th with two play-in games. One game was to be played in Burlington, with #7 New Town facing the #4 seed, DesLacs/Burlington. DLB got the 7 to 0 win, as New Town forfeited. The other game was played in Stanley, with #6 Ray facing the #5 seed, Stanley. The Blue Jays from Stanley won that game, as they defeated Ray 9 to 3.

Hunter Rodin was on the mound in the Muskrats’ opening round game against Watford City. Rodin took the loss as the Muskrats were defeated by the ten run rule. Also pictured are Connor Brackenbury, on the left at shortstop position, and partially hidden behind Rodin is Issac Undlin in center field.

One game was played on Friday, May 15th in Burlington, and that featured the #4 DLB Lakers playing the #5 Stanley Blue Jays. DLB was victorious in that game, as they defeated Stanley 5 to 1.

Saturday, May 16th, the #2 seed, Watford City, matched up with the #3 seed, MLS-Glenburn-Kenmare/ Bowbells. Despite the rainy weather, the game was played. Watford City took a 2 to 0 lead after one inning of play, and then added another 3 runs in the bottom of the third for a 5 to 0 game. The game remained 5 to 0 until the top of the fourth when the Muskrats got on the board, as they scored a solo run in the fourth when Chase Gates scored on a hit by Hunter Rodin. MLS-G-KB added another run in the top of the fifth to make it a 5 to 2 game, but then things fell apart for the Muskrats, as Watford City came across with 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the ten run rule, 12 to 2.

On the mound and taking the loss for the Muskrats was Hunter Rodin, with Talon Thompson behind the plate doing the catching. Rodin was relieved in the top of the fifth with one out by Isaac Undlin.

For the game, Watford City scored their 12 runs on 6 hits, had no errors, and left 6 runners stranded on the bases. The Muskrats scored their 2 runs on 5 hits, committed 3 errors, and left a total of 8 runners stranded on the bases.

The second game on Saturday had #4 DLB playing #1 Lewis and Clark. The game had to be completed on Tuesday, May 19th due to the rain and wet conditions. Lewis and Clark was up 7 to 1 when the game was called on Saturday, and they ended up winning the game on Tuesday by the ten run rule, 11 to 1.

All Region Team

Three Muskrat players were named to this year’s All Region Team. Pictured left to right are senior, Connor Brackenbury; junior, Talon Thompson; and freshman, Isaac Undlin. Others named to the team were: Austin Lee, Jordon Nelson, Alex Nelson, and Alec Lee, all of Lewis and Clark/Parshall; David Kline, Quayde Shores, Keegan Thompson, and Brandon Roff, all of Watford City; Cole Grosche, Layton Erickson, Noah Zietz, and Jarrett Vendsel, all of DesLacs/Burlington; Kellen Enget of Stanley; and Garrett Hodenfield and Bunker Hill, both of Ray. Austin Lee was named the Senior Athlete and his coach, Fred Nelson, was named Coach of the Year.

KB-MLS girls advance to State B Tournament as #3 team from the West

KB-MLS has qualified for the State Class B Fastpitch Softball Tournament as the #3 team from the West Region. The KB-MLS girls’ fastpitch softball team is headed to Dickinson for the State Class B Fastpitch Softball Tournament which will be held Thursday, May 28th through Saturday, May 30th.

KB-MLS wrapped up the West Region Tournament on Wednesday, May 20th at Turtle Lake as the #3 team. In their opening round game on Tuesday, May 19th, KB-MLS defeated Central McLean by the ten run rule, 18 to 3. Then in their second game that day, Stanley came back and defeated KB-MLS 8 to 7 in two extra innings, forcing the girls to play in a state qualifying game against DesLacs/Burlington-Lewis and Clark/Berthold. KB-MLS fought off the Lakers for the 10 to 1 win to advance to state.

Qualifying for state along with KB-MLS, who will go in as the #3 team from the West were: #1 Stanley; #2 Westhope/Newburg/Bottineau; and #4 Watford City.
