Michael Hatfield has been appointed
Renville County Sheriff as of August 1st

Sheriff Hatfield is originally from the state of Washington, but grew up in Minot during his younger years and graduated from Minot High School. He is a 2012 graduate from Lake Region State College in Devils Lake through the Minot program. Michael is married, and he and his wife, Carissa reside in Glenburn. Carissa is the assistant manager at Maurice’s in Minot.

Renville County currently has four deputies working under Sheriff Hatfield. They include Chief Deputy Renae Johnson, who works in the Sheriff’s Office; Deputy Dave Blocker and Deputy Andrew Cooper, who both reside in Mohall; Deputy Chris Seacrest, who resides in Sherwood and is currently attending the Academy in Bismarck and will begin working full-time with the County on August 22nd; and Deputy Cody Miller, who is a transfer out of Rugby and will begin working with the County on August 21st. Sheriff Hatfield stated that he is also planning to hire one more deputy to work in the County.

Sheriff Hatfield is very excited about serving the residents of Renville County as the Interim Sheriff. While serving as the Interim Sheriff, he plans to get the Sheriff’s Department up to full capacity and making the Renville County Sheriff’s Department more visible to the County residents. He also hopes for better relationships with the County residents; and to be more involved with the schools by providing them with drug and alcohol awareness programs.

When Sheriff Hatfield is not on duty, he enjoys spending time with his wife, bow hunting, fishing, and his involvement with the West Minot Church of God.
