Farm Credit announces latest grants to
support western North Dakota communities

On Tuesday, January 26th, Farm Credit organizations in western North Dakota announced more than $430,000 in grants to local communities through the Rural Community Grant Fund.

The grants provide much-needed resources for non-profits focused on improving the lives of area residents. With these funds, individuals with developmental disabilities at the ABLE group home in Dickinson will have a new elevator. At-risk youth in Minot and Sentinel Butte will benefit from grants to Home on the Range and the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. The women’s shelter in Beulah will be able to care for more people in crisis situations. And firefighters in Tolley, Bowbells, and Portal will have access to the equipment they need to keep their communities safe.

“The communities in western North Dakota continue to be challenged as they deal with the ups and downs of oil exploration. I am proud of the support these communities have given us this year and I’m pleased to be able to give back with the intentions of helping them make a difference,” says Claude Sem, CEO, Farm Credit Services of North Dakota.

The fund was established as a partnership between Farm Credit Services of Mandan and Farm Credit Services of North Dakota – the two largest providers of agricultural loans in western North Dakota—and AgriBank, their St. Paul, Minnesota-based funding bank, to help communities impacted by oil development. Through the fund, Farm Credit provides grants to support infrastructure or development initiatives encompassing housing projects, medical facilities, health, safety and environmental programs, and other critical needs.

The latest grants include:
• $50,000 to ABLE Inc. for an elevator in a group home serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Dickinson.

• $50,000 to the Tolley Fire Department to replace an outdated pumper truck needed to fight fires.

• $50,000 to the Northwest Landowners Association to help ... (To read this article and more, see this week's issue of the Renville County Farmer.)
