Dunseith defeats MLS 74 to 38
in the Mavericks’ season opener

Mohall Lansford Sherwood hosted Dunseith for a boys’ non-conference season opener in Mohall on Friday, December 12th.

Dunseith held a 15 to 9 first quarter lead and then outscored MLS 19 to 8 in the second quarter for a 34 to 17 half-time lead. The Dragons continued to dominate in the second half by outscoring the Mavericks 24 to 7 in the third and 16 to 14 in the fourth for a 74 to 38 victory.

Top scorer for Dunseith: Trace Azure with 16 points.

Scoring for MLS: Talon Thompson 9 (2-3’s), Isaac Undlin 7 (1-3), Statler Olson 5 (1-3), Berkley Santos 4, Tyrell Schmidt 4, Connor Brackenbury 3, Trevor Savelkoul 3, Jacob Smith 2, and Cole Feland 1.

Mohall Lansford Sherwood hosted Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) for a boys’ non-conference game in Sherwood on Saturday, December 13th.

MLS held a 17 to 14 lead after one period before TGU took a one point 29 to 28 lead at the half by outscoring the Mavericks 15 to 11 in the second quarter. The Titans increased their lead to 47 to 39 heading into the fourth, as they outscored MLS 18 to 11 in the third quarter. TGU outscored MLS 22 to 19 in the fourth for the 69 to 58 victory.

Leading scorer for TGU was Eli Luna with 21 points.

Scoring for MLS: Talon Thompson 15, Isaac Undlin 15, Trevor Savelkoul 8 (1-3), Connor Brackenbury 7, Berkley Santos 6, Tyrell Schmidt 4, Cole Feland 2, and Jacob Smith 1.

The Mavericks were in Westhope on Tuesday, December 16th for a non-conference game against the Westhope/Newburg Sioux. Result of that game was not known by press time.

On Thursday, December 18th MLS will travel to Max; and then on Monday, December 22nd the Mavericks will close out the 2014 year hosting Divide County at Mohall.


Glenburn defeats TGU 52 to 49

The Glenburn Panthers girls’ basketball team hosted the Towner/Granville/Upham Titans on Thursday, December 11th.

Glenburn held a four point, 10 to 6, lead after one quarter of play and then trailed the Titans 18 to 24 at the half. The Panthers came out of the locker room at the half and outscored the Titans 22 to 7 in the third quarter to take a 40 to 31 lead headed into the final quarter. Both teams broke into the double digits in the fourth quarter, with TGU outscoring the Panthers 18 to 12, but it wouldn’t be enough for the win, as Glenburn held on for the 52 to 49 victory.

Leading the Titans in scoring was McKayla Ness with 21 points.

Glenburn’s individual scoring: Katie Dufner 19, Parker Bush 15, Sierra Payne 10, and Sam Beauregard 8.
