Muskrats participated in State B American Legion Baseball Tournament in Langdon

Renville County Muskrats are on their way to the State “B” American Legion Baseball Tournament in Langdon. Members of the team are left to right: Statler Olson, Connor Brackenbury, Talon Thompson, Berkley Santos, Wyatt Thompson, Chase Gates, Charlie Eriksmoen, Douglas Winzenburg, Coach Roger Erickson, Wyatt Schmidt, and Ryley Brown.

The Renville County Muskrats loaded up their bus on Tuesday afternoon, July 29th and headed out of Mohall, escorted by the Renville County Sheriff’s Department and several parents, grandparents, and fans, for the State Class “B” American Legion Baseball Tournament being held in Langdon July 30th through August 3rd. Renville County qualified for the State Tournament by being the Runner-Up team in the West Region behind Burlington.

Opening round games of the tournament got underway on Wednesday morning, July 30th, with Renville County playing LaMoure. The Muskrats were shut out in the first three innings, while LaMoure scored three runs in the bottom of the first; six runs in the bottom of the second; and four runs in the bottom of the third, to take an early 13 to 0 lead. Renville County finally got their bats going in the top of the fourth, with Ryley Brown, Douglas Winzenburg, and Statler Olson all getting base hits, allowing Brown to score on Olson’s single, putting the Muskrats on the scoreboard. However, that would be the Muskrats’ lone run of the game, as LaMoure added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 14 to 1 game, and then held Renville County scoreless in the top of the fifth, giving LaMoure the 10-run rule victory.

On the mound for Renville County was Ryley Brown, who was relieved by Talon Thompson and Charlie Eriksmoen, with Brown credited with the loss. Brown allowed 9 runs on 6 hits, gave up four walks, and hit a batter; Thompson gave up 4 runs on 4 walks; and Eriksmoen gave up 1 run on 1 hit. Behind the plate and doing the catching for the Muskrats was Douglas Winzenburg.
For the game, Renville County scored their 1 run on 3 hits, committed 2 errors, and left 6 men stranded on the bases during the game. LaMoure finished the game with 14 runs on 9 hits (To read this interesting article and many more, see this week's issue of the RCF.)
