Ruth Stanley, Julie Driessen, and Kathy Aalund are top winners at the Sherwood Flower Show

The Sherwood Garden Club sponsored their 35th annual Flower Shower at the Sherwood Memorial Hall on Thursday, August 14th. There were a total of 14 adults and 10 children who entered a total of 175 arrangements at this year’s show.























Pictured above: Kathy Aalund’s Lily arrangement was voted as the People’s Choice Award, which was sponsored by Renville Elevator.

Top winners in the adult categories were: Ruth Stanley, Best of Show, sponsored by Bowers Ag; Julie Driessen of Underwood, Judge’s Special Award, sponsored by Nettie’s Diner; and People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Renville Elevator, went to Kathy Aalund.
































The Judge’s Special Award, which was sponsored by Nettie’s Diner, was won by Julie Driessen with her callalily inside a glass container.

Mohall Fire Department donates
gaming funds to local baseball programs

This past week the Mohall Fire Department presented funds from their gaming account to the Mohall Youth Baseball Program and the Renville County Muskrats/Mallards baseball teams. The Youth program consists of t-ball, pee wees, and midgets; the Mallards are the Babe Ruth team; and the Muskrats are the American Legion Team.

Arlyn Johnson, Mohall Fire Chief, presented both the Mallards/Muskrats and the Youth Baseball programs with a check in the amount of $1,000 to be used to pay expenses for operating the programs for the 2014 season. These expenses include coaches’ salaries, fuel for buses, and equipment supplies.

“Back to School games” held at Good Samaritan Society - Mohall on August 15th


Several of the children who participated in the “Back to School Games” at the Good Samaritan Society - Mohall gather around Gretchen Brendsel, an Activities Assistant at the Center, to pick out their prizes. Students took part in games which required them to run, hop, jump, fit inside a hula hoop, and much more, all while having fun.

It was a nice day for the event and the residents and staff enjoyed being outside to watch the children participate. After the games were done all enjoy root beer floats inside, as well as snow cones.



Several family members, friends, residents, and staff gathered outside the nursing home on Friday, August 15th to watch the children participate in the “Back to School Games.”

Baskets needed for Silent Auction....
Kelly Vig Memorial Walk/Run and Community

The third annual Kelly Vig Memorial Walk/Run is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th and will start at 4:00 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Society - Mohall. The 5K walk/run will be held in conjunction with a community picnic and a silent auction. All money raised from the walk/run and silent auction will stay locally with the Good Samaritan Society - Mohall. Proceeds will go to the Kelly Vig Memorial Education Fund and will be used for work related education for staff and employees at Good Samaritan Society - Mohall.

Registration fee for the walk/run is $15.00 per person and includes a t-shirt. Participants may either run or walk, however you must pre-register for the event by contacting the Good Samaritan Society - Mohall at 756-6831 as soon as possible.

Sponsors are again needed for the Memorial 5K Walk/Run, and if you are interested you are asked to contact Good Samaritan Society - Mohall at 756-6831. Sponsorship levels are: bronze level ($50.00 to $99.00), silver ($100.00 to $299.00), and gold ($300.00 and over).

The picnic is open to the community and will begin around 6:00 p.m. Throughout the picnic, those in attendance may bid on the silent auction items. These items will be baskets of goodies donated by various individuals and businesses. Anyone who would like to donate a basket is asked to get them to the Good Samaritan Society - Mohall by Tuesday, September 2nd. You may use whatever type of theme you would like for the baskets, and they ask that the baskets are enclosed so that the items inside the basket may be viewed.

As administrator of the Mohall center, Kelly Vig helped organize and participated in the 2011 Kick Cancer Walk/Run. With Kelly Vig passing away in January of 2012 from cancer, organizers renamed the event in her memory and directed that the proceeds be used to support an education fund for Mohall center staff members who wish ...
