Mavericks even their record at 1-1 with win over New Town

The Mohall Lansford Sherwood (MLS) Mavericks were in New Town on Saturday, August 30th for a Region 3 nine-man contest against the Eagles.

It was the Eagles that got on the scoreboard first, as they scored in the first quarter (name not provided) and then added the two point conversion to make it an 8-0 game. That would be how the quarter ended, as no one else scored. The Mavericks got their offense going in the second quarter and came up big, as they scored three touchdowns in the quarter to make it a 22 to 8 game at the half. Scoring for the Mavericks in the quarter were Talon Thompson (Thompson conversion), Cole Feland (conversion failed), and Trey Holsten (Thompson conversion).

The Mavericks added another 12 points to their score in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 34 to 8 at the end of the quarter. Scoring in that quarter for the Mavericks were Trey Holsten (conversion failed), and Jesse Mott (Mott conversion). New Town finished out the game scoring, as they scored another touchdown in the final quarter (name not provided) to make it a 34 to 14 victory for the MLS Mavericks.

The win evened the Mavericks’ record at 1-1 in the Region 3 nine-man standings.

Offensive statistics for the Mavericks:
Passing: Connor Brackenbury completed 11 of 15 passes for a total of 187 yards and two touchdowns; and Statler Olson was 0 for 2.

Receiving: Talon Thompson caught 3 passes for a total of 19 yards; Tanner Driscoll had 1 catch for 5 yards; Cole Feland had 2 catches for 43 yards and one touchdown; Trevor Evanger had 1 catch for 8 yards; and Jesse Mott had 4 catches for 112 yards and one touchdown.

On Friday, September 5th the Mavericks were in Towner for a Region 3 nine-man contest against the Towner/Granville/Upham Titans. MLS was defeated in that game by a score of 48 to 22. Individual scoring and stats from that game will appear in the September 17th issue of the Renville County Farmer.

Next action for the Mavericks will be on Friday, September 12th when they will travel to St. John to play the Woodchucks. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.

MLS Lady Mavericks open up their
season with a win over Burke County

The Mohall Lansford Sherwood (MLS) Lady Mavericks opened up their 2014 volleyball season at home on Tuesday, September 2nd when they hosted the Burke County Titans. The match went four sets, with MLS winning the first set 25 to 20. Burke County came back and won the second set, beating the Mavericks 25 to 18. Then the Mavericks won the next two sets by scores of 26 to 24 and 25 to 17 to win the match 3 sets to 1.

Individual match stats for the MLS Lady Mavericks:
Aces: Callie Carlson 4 and Becca Schoenberg 4.
Assists: Emily Abernathey 33.
Blocks: Callie Carlson 5.
Attacks/Kills: Hailee Depute 13, Callie Carlson 12, Macy Sundahl 9, and Morgan Depute 4.
MLS is 1-0 on the season.

Glenburn defeats the Sawyer Flashes 3 to 1

The Glenburn Lady Panthers were in Sawyer on Thursday, September 4th for a non-conference match with the Sawyer Flashes. Glenburn went home with the win, as they defeated Sawyer 3 sets to 1. Set scores were 25 to 21, 25 to 17, 10 to 25, and 25 to 22.

Individual match stats for the Panthers:
Kills: Parker Bush 12, Sam Koetter 11, and Katie Dufner 10.
Assists: Katie Dufner 17, and Sam Beauregard 14.
Service Aces: Parker Bush 4, Katie Dufner 3, Sam Beauregard 3, and Sam Koetter 3.

MLS Lady Mavericks top
the Bottineau Stars 3 to 1

On Thursday, September 4th, Coach Jaime Adams’ MLS Lady Mavericks hosted the Bottineau Stars at the Donald M. Kolbo Auditorium in Mohall. The Lady Mavericks started off with a 2 to 0 lead as they won the first two sets by scores of 25 to 23 and 25 to 13. However, the Stars fought back and took set three, as they defeated the Mavericks 25 to 23. But in the end, the Mavericks did prevail, as they came back and won the fourth set by a score of 25 to 14 to win the non-conference match 3 sets to 1. Individual match stats for the Mavericks were as follows:

Kills: Callie Carlson 13, Hailee Depute 9, and Macy Feland 4.
Assists: Emily Abernathey 24.
Aces: Morgan Depute 5, and Macy Sundahl 5.
Digs: Hailee Depute 13, and Callie Carlson 8.
Blocks: Macy Feland 5, and Macy Sundahl 4.

The win improved the Mavericks’ record to 2-0 on the season.

On Saturday, September 6th, the MLS Lady Mavericks participated in the Bottineau Early Bird Tournament and came home the champions. Results from that tournament will appear in the September 17th issue of the RCF.

Last night, Tuesday, September 9th, the Lady Mavericks hosted the Kenmare Honkers. Results from that match were not available by press time.

Next action for the Lady Mavericks will be Thursday, September 11 when they will host the Velva Aggies. Match times are 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.
