Elaine Roberts

Elaine Frances (Engh) Roberts, 54, of Sherwood, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at her home following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
A family service was held on Friday, May 31, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., at the church.
Officiating at the services was Reverend Todd Olson. Special music was provided by soloist, Mary Benning, with Chantel R. Southam as organist.
Elaine was born March 17, 1959 in Mohall to Arnold and Vivian (McCrory) Engh, the fifth of six children. She attended school in Sherwood and graduated from Sherwood High School in May of 1978.
In 1979, she moved to Renton, WA, where she was employed at the Bon Marche. It was in Renton that she met the love of her life, Bob Roberts. They were married in Sherwood on February 14, 1983, and have spent 30 years enjoying each other’s companionship. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1998, they moved back to Sherwood.
Elaine was actively involved with the Sherwood Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and her church, Our Savior Lutheran, Sherwood, where she served in many capacities.
She and Bob spent much time traveling. The ocean was their greatest retreat. How they loved walking the beaches, flying kites, or just sitting and listening to the sound of the waves. They had many great vacations and made the most of the past five years after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Her siblings 50th birthdays were always celebrated with family. Upon nearing her 50th birthday, she confided in her sister, Jennifer, that she would like to celebrate with an Ovarian Cancer Walk. And so it was, in July of 2009, the first International Ovarian Cancer Walk was held in Sherwood. It was a huge success with over $65,000 raised for research and awareness in the United States and Canada!
Elaine was a person that found so much joy in helping others. She loved going to the nursing home in Mohall, helping the ladies in the Sherwood apartments with their needs, and making sure her dad’s needs and wants were taken care of. She cherished the time spent with her granddaughters, nieces, and nephews. She was always up to playing games, taking a niece or nephew out for their first driving lesson, “spying”, or M & M treats on “Saturday!”

Survivors include her husband, Bob; stepchildren, Alan Roberts, Louisville, KY, and Angie (Mike) Mayer, Black Diamond, WA; sisters, Kathy (Stan) Nelson, Prior Lake, MN, Polly (Larry) Christensen, Muskogee, OK, Jeanette (John) Daeley, Sherwood, Jennifer (Greg) Henderson, Carivale, Sask., Canada; brother, Allan (Connie) Engh, Sherwood; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss her dearly.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Vivian Engh.
