JEWEL HYSJULIEN
June 8, 1930 - July 22 2015
Jewel Hysjulien, 85, of Noonan, ND, more recently of Tioga, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Tioga Long Term Care. Her funeral was held 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Noonan.

Pastor Zachariah Shipman officiated. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery, south of Columbus.

Jewel was born June 8, 1930, to Clarence and Marian Pommier on their farm south of Lignite. She attended Foothills Township School thru the 8th grade, and then continued her high school education at Lignite High School graduating in 1948 as Valedictorian of her class.

She was active in 4-H throughout her younger years, showing her steers, (her favorite steer was Curly) and winning many blue ribbons and selling them at the annual auction at the Burke County Fair in Flaxton.

Jewel was involved in the Noonan Community throughout the years. She was active in Bethlehem Ladies Aide, Monthly Birthday Club at Donna’s Café, American Legion, Divide County Historical Association and was a Cancer Volunteer Worker.

She was an excellent seamstress, sewing outfits for all her kids in their younger years and making dresses, shirts, and mending holes in blue jeans for several people in the community. She always loved the challenge of replacing zippers in clothing others couldn’t. She was an excellent cook and baker and always sent her kids home with a “care package” to eat when they got home.

She truly loved it when her grandkids would visit and she could spoil them “some” but more important to her was ensuring everyone was full when they were done eating.

Jewel and Lynn loved to dance and they were frequent weekend travelers to Larson, Battleview or wherever a good dance band was playing. In 2004, Lynn and Jewel purchased a home in Tioga to be closer to medical facilities. Jewel moved to Independent Living at Tioga Medical Center in 2011.

Jewel married Lynn Hysjulien on June 25, 1948 at Lignite. They were blessed with three children, Bonnie (Norm) Sortland of Crosby, Randy (Dianne) Hysjulien of Surrey and Linda (Rodney) Anderson of Tioga.

She will be especially missed by her grandchildren. Marc (Stephanie) Sortland of Minot, Nicole (Brad) Stoddard of Bismarck, Amy Langstaff of West Fargo, Brent (Lindsey) Hysjulien of Hazen, Dawn (Scott) Nelson of Glasgow, MT, Dani (Craig) Moen of Epping; and

17 great grandchildren, Rylin, Macce and Tre’ Sortland, McAyla and Tanner Hegre, Benjamin and Lauren Weiler, EJ amd Kaitlin Langstaff, Abigail, Mattea, Hadley and Elleri Hysjulien, Carly and Coy Nelson and Samantha and Jarrett Moen.

Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn and parents, Clarence and Marian Pommier.

The family requests memorials to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Noonan or the Bethany Cemetery Fund in Columbus in lieu of flowers.
