MLS wins their road trip game at Underwood 53 to 49

The Mohall Lansford Sherwood Mavericks took a long road trip to Underwood on Monday, February 16th for a boys’ non-conference game.

MLS held a 16 to 10 lead after the first quarter and then let it slip away as the Comets came back and tied this up at the half 26 to 26 as they outscored the Mavericks 16 to 10 in the second quarter. Underwood held a five point lead, 41 to 36, after three quarters of play as they outscored the Mavericks 15 to 10 in that quarter. However, it was the Mavericks who went home with the win, as they came back and outscored the Comets 17 to 8 in the fourth quarter for the 53 to 49 victory.

Leading scorer for Underwood was Zach Cottingham with 15 points.

Individual scoring for the MLS Mavericks: Isaac Undlin 17, Talon Thompson 15, Berkley Santos 10, Trevor Savelkoul 4, Jacob Smith 2, Chase Gates 2, Tyrell Schmidt 2, and Statler Olson 1.

The win improved the Mavericks to 6 and 12 on the year.

MLS loses their final regular season game to Tioga 43 to 69

















Four MLS seniors played their last regular season game on Thursday, February 19th when the Mavericks traveled to Tioga. Pictured above, left to right, are: Cole Feland, Tyrell Schmidt, Coach Matt Undlin, Evan Rogers, and Connor Brackenbury. The seniors and their team will now head into District Tournament play which begins on Friday, February 27th at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.

On Thursday, February 19th, the MLS Mavericks traveled to Tioga for their final regular season game against the Pirates.

Tioga took an early lead and were up 17 to 11 after the first quarter. However, the Mavericks cut into that lead as they outscored the Pirates 14 to 10 to make it a 27 to 25 game in favor of Tioga. But things changed in a hurry in the third quarter as the Pirates came out and scored 30 points while holding the Mavericks to just 4 points in the third quarter. Tioga now lead 57 to 29 as the two teams headed into the fourth and final quarter. The Mavericks managed to outscored the Pirates by a bucket, 14 to 12, but it wouldn’t be enough as Tioga picked up the 69 to 43 non-conference win.

Leading the Pirates in scoring was Logan Aadnes with 17 points.

The loss dropped the Mavericks to 6 and 13 on the year. Their next action will be the District 12 Basketball Tournament which begins at the Minot Municipal Auditorium on Friday, February 27th. MLS will match up with Our Redeemer’s at 5:30 p.m. that evening.

Tickets available for Girls’ State ‘B’ Basketball Tournament at MSU Dome
The 2015 North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) sponsored Girls’ B State Basketball Tournament will be held at the Minot State University Dome, 11th Ave NW, Minot, on March 5th, 6th, and 7th. Rick Hedberg, Minot State Athletic Director, will be the tournament manager.

Region play began Monday, February 23rd, with region finals slated February 26th. State action begins Thursday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. with opening round play. Friday, March 6th will hold semi-final games with afternoon sessions at 1:00 p.m. and evening sessions at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7th, will present consolation games beginning at 1:00 p.m., with the third place and championship games during the 6:00 p.m. session. Doors open one hour before each session begins.
