Velva defeats Muskrats 3 to 1

The Renville County Muskrats were in Velva on Wednesday, July 8th for a seven inning regional game with Velva.

Velva scored first in the contest, as they knocked in a run in the bottom of the second. They held that lead until the bottom of the fifth when Chase Gates scored for the Muskrats on a hit by Isaac Undlin to tie the game up at 1 all. However, Velva came right back in the bottom of the fifth and scored their final two runs of the game to make it a 3 to 1 game, which ended up being the final score.

On the mound and taking the loss for Renville County was Statler Olson, with Talon Thompson behind the plate catching. Olson recorded 2 strike outs, put 4 runners on the base by hitting them, and walking 3 Velva batters.

For the game, Renville County scored their lone run of the game on 4 hits, committed 6 errors, and left 8 runners stranded on the bases. Velva scored their 3 runs on 3 hits, didn’t have any errors, and left 11 runners stranded on the bases.

Getting the hits for Renville County were: Isaac Undlin - a single and an RBI; Wyatt Schmitt - a single; Statler Olson - a single; and Dalton Moberg - a single.


Muskrats take a pair from Garrison

On Thursday, July 9th, Renville County hosted Garrison at Lansford for a regional doubleheader.

The Muskrats from Renville County got on the scoreboard first in game one, when they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added another three runs to their score in the bottom of the second, making it a 5 to 0 game. Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Muskrats scored another 6 runs to make it an 11 to 0 game. The Titans from Garrison finally scored a run in the top of the fifth, but it wouldn’t be enough, as the Muskrats won the contest by the ten run rule, 11 to 1.

On the mound and going the distance for the Muskrats and picking up the win was Connor Brackenbury, with Talon Thompson behind the plate catching. Brackenbury was credited with 4 strike outs in the game, gave up just two hits, put three Titan players on base - two with a walk and one hit by a pitch.

The Muskrats finished the game with 11 runs on 10 hits, committed 1 error, and left 7 runners stranded on the bases. Garrison had just 1 run on 2 hits, committed 4 errors, and left 6 base runners stranded.

Credited with the hits for Renville County were: Isaac Undlin - a single; Talon Thompson - two singles; Connor Brackenbury - a single; Doug Winzenburg - two singles; Wyatt Schmidt - a single; Chase Gates - a double and a single; and Dalton Moberg - a single.

Game two also ended up being just a five inning game, as Renville County shut out the Garrison Titans 10 to 0.

Renville County scored one run in the bottom of the first, and another run in the bottom of the second, before coming up big in the bottom of the fourth, scoring eight runs for the 10 to 0 victory.

Seeing action on the mound for the Muskrats were Isaac Undlin and Dalton Moberg, with Undlin getting the win and Moberg the save. Isaac recorded 5 Titan strike outs and gave up just two hits, while Dalton gave up just 1 hit.

Renville County finished the second game scoring 10 runs on 7 hits, and left 5 runners stranded on the bases. Garrison finished with just 3 hits and left just 3 men stranded on the bases. Neither team committed any errors in the game.

Credited with hits for Renville County were: Isaac Undlin - a single; Chase Gates - a double; Doug Winzenburg - a single; Charlie Eriksmoen - two singles; and Caleb Foltyn - two singles.


2015 Regional Tournament begins today, Wednesday, July 22nd in Surrey
The 2015 American Legion Regional Baseball Tournament will begin today, Wednesday, July 22nd in Surrey and will continue through Sunday, July 26th. This will be a double elimination tournament, with the top two teams from the region advancing to the State Tournament.

A play-in game was played on Tuesday, July 21st in Surrey, with #8 Hettinger matching up with #9 Stanley. Winner of this game was not known at press time, however, that winner will move into tournament play on Wednesday.

Tournament action will begin at 10:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 22nd with the winner of the play-in game having to play the #1 seed, Kidder County.

At 12:30 p.m. #2 Burlington will match up against the Renville County Muskrats, the #7 seed.

The 3:00 p.m. game will have the host team, Surrey, #4 seeded, against #5 seed Hazen.

At 5:30 p.m. the final first round game will be played between #3 Shiloh of Bismarck and #6 Garrison.

Tournament play will continue on Thursday, July 23rd. The first game will be played at 10:00 a.m. between the loser of the Kidder County/ Hettinger or Stanley game. Then at 12:30 p.m. the loser from the Burlington/Renville County game and Shiloh/Garrison game will battle each other. At 3:00 p.m. the winner of the Kidder County/Hettinger or Stanley game will play the winner of the Surrey/Hazen game. The final game at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, will have the winner of the Burlington/Renville County game playing the winner of the Shiloh/Garrison game.

Friday, July 24th games are to be played at 12:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.

Games on Saturday, July 25th are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Finals on Sunday, July 26th are 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. if needed.
