Farm Rescue Aids In Local Farmers Harvest
By Kiara Crosby

"It’s a great feeling, the support after the storm and now is just awesome," commented tornado survivor, Dennis Bauer.

Encompassed by volunteers on Monday, Aug. 30, folks were back at the Bauer farmsite to assist in the continued clean up efforts from the damaging effects of the August 12th tornado.

ND Farm Rescue volunteers and their partners from Sun Prairie Grain, WalMart and Ryan Chevrolet all participated in the event.

Picking up remaining debris in the fields and throughout the farmstead, volunteers found a multitude of interesting things.

"If you can imagine it, it’s probably out here," said Nick Anderson, employee of SunPrairie Grain.

Compacting large pieces of metal for recycling, a company out of Minot was on hand to shrink some of the piles surrounding the landscape, which had been collected by local volunteers the days immediately following the storm.

WalMart provided all the food for the work crew, and SunPrairie did the cooking on their grill for all to enjoy a hot meal on a cold damp day.

Due to wet conditions the people on hand ready to combine were unable to harvest at the time of the Farm Rescue event. While some volunteers had traveled great distances to be a part of the efforts, others are relatively local and will be on-call for harvest.

"As soon as it’s dry we will continue," said volunteer Charlie Bartsch from Minot.

"It will be up to us local guys when the time is right," added Gene Spichke from Keif.
